To President Barack Obama concerning an 85 year old woman with no social securi...

My dad passed away February 3, 2014. He was 86 years old. He was a 2 time vet, serving during both WWII and the Korean War. He worked for the RailRoad and retired from there in 1989. My mom is 85. My mom and dad were married 63 years at the time of his death. When my dad passed away the railroad retirement board said they were through paying my mom benefits and she would have to go to the social security to draw benefits from them. SS took an application from her and said it could take as long as 6 months or longer to make a decision about her benefits. When her benefits were cut off, so was her medicare. So now she has no income and no insurance. Now her medicare supplement insurance is cancelling because they said they cannot cover her because she does not have medicare. My mother has had 2 open heart surgeries and several stents. She also has several medical conditions that needs a doctors supervision. Because she has no income and no insurance, she has cancelled all her doctor appointments because she cannot afford to run up bills. I am her daughter and I cannot afford my own medical bills, much less hers too. We are all doing our best to keep the utilities on and food on the table. I do not live with my mother so I have my own utilities to pay. How does our country justify cutting off the income and medicare from an 85 year old woman who worked until she was approximately 81 years old to try to help her and my dad live a little bit better life. She did not know that she was supposed to sign up for SS when she turned retirement age, because she was still working and did not know she could work and draw SS. My mom needs help getting her SS benefits and getting her medicare reinstated. I also believe that the SS and medicare should go back to the date that they were terminated. Right now she has a severe staph infection in her feet, legs and fingers. I am concerned that without medical attention that she could loosed her feet, legs and fingers..Also with a medical history of heart attacks and strokes we never know when this might happen again and she will need medical attention and a hospital stay. Besides RRB and SS we have contacted a congressman and her supplemental insurance man. They are trying to help but so far they are not having much luck either. When my mom tries to call this local SS office they hang up on her. At first they said she needed to speak to the lady that took her application. But that lady is never available and she never returns my moms phone calls. Now when my mom calls the SS office they just hang up on her. My mom calls them at least twice a week to try to find out any kind of information. But she cannot even get a return call telling her anything or even if they know anything. I am hoping that the President of the United States can help her. I would hate to think that the United States of America is treating their elderly in such a shameful way. The town that we live in is poverty riddled and on a sharp decline from a former middle class and surviving city. I have lived here my whole life and have watch the town grow into a successful city, but with poor leadership, the town made a turn and is fast becoming a ghost town, This is bad enough to see and we do not have the money to move, but to now watch my mother suffer from the unknowing of when she will again get her monthly benefits and medicare. Can the United States and our Beloved President Obama be able to help my mom please. Susan Williams
