Give Veterans Coice in Care
- Robert O.
- Monday, 26 May 2014
I served two years in the Army, 1955-1957, retired from Illinois to Lakeland in 1997. I am thankful for my Medicare Card and Lakeland's state of the art health care. My father was a veteran of WWI, and when I was 10 years old, traveled 79 miles from Paxton, IL to the VA Hospital in Morris,IL for appendicitis surgery. If he had insurance, or money, the surgery could have been done by his doctor at the Paxton Hospital, one mile away. Currently, I have Veteran friends that have to travel to Tampa for medical care.
I propose giving all our Veterans a VETERAN CARE CARD as an expansion of the Medicare Program. Two modifications would be required : No age restriction and 100% coverage instead of 80%. Let the VA hospitals compete for medical care against Lakeland Regional and all hospitals in the United States that provide Medicare service. Let the VA close their doors if competition causes them to run out of customers.
Congress is not by the people and for the people anymore because they are owned by the billionaires who finance campaigns (extortion); only for politicians that do what the billionaires tell them. Taking care of Veterans is not a money maker for billionaires, but maybe they could make an exception and show appreciation and compassion for our Veterans who served our country and protected their investments.
