KEYSTONE PIPELINE AND FRACKNG
- Rita S.
- Friday, 25 April 2014
EARTH IS THE ONLY PLANET THAT WE KNOW OF WHERE LIFE CAN SURVIVE. THIS IS BECAUSE WE LIVE ON THE WATER PLANET.
THE SURVIVAL OF AMERICAN INDIANS DEPENDS ON THE PURE WATER THAT RUNS THROUGH THEIR PROPERTY. Oil companies want the right to extend the Keystone Pipeline sending oil across America using pipelines that can be damaged and leak oil. This danger is serious to the Sioux Indian Reservations because it would pollute the only water supply American Indians have available to them. Our elected officials in Congress must take action to deny oil being pumped through their lands if the Keystone Pipeline were approved.
Too often, we do not get the news concerning occurrences of oil spills where serious damage has occurred to property and waterways. Why is this happening and why are these events not being given proper attention in the news?
Here in Pennsylvania, we also are concerned about the serious problems with fracking. Residents living where fracking is taking place worry because chemicals are leaching into their water supplies. Why are oil companies now using pure water from wells without giving thought to how that water would be replaced? Where will residents get pure drinking water from when chemicals destroy their wells and sources of clean water? Because of this fact, why do we allow our rivers and steams to become polluted?
The short-term jobs that may result from the Keystone Pipeline and fracking will not solve the long-term unemployment situation. Today, communities that see money coming their way will lose this money when the oil companies and their workers are gone.
WE CANNOT RISK HAVING ANY MORE CHEMICALS OR OIL ENTERING OUR WATERWAYS. IF THIS CONTINUES, THE RESULTS TO OUR WATER PLANET WILL BE DISASTROUS. OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS MUST BE MORE PROTECTIVE OF AMERICAN CITIZENS AND NOT JUST THE WEALTHY DONORS.
