Dear President Obama,

I would like to ask you to please help the people of the slums, all over the world, but mainly to my homeland, the Philippines. I am young citizen of this country with immigrant parents. Coming to this country was like a dream because I was able to "escape" the harsh life of the province. I have been living here for the past fourteen years, but I will never forget where I came from. As I watched a documentary about the slums in the Philippines, many emotions came up. At first I felt sorry for those people, then I felt angry at myself for not helping them, and finally, I felt helpless because I knew that I cannot help them by myself. A powerful person like you, and maybe you are even the most powerful person in the world, would be able to help my country. By helping, I do not only ask that you give money to the people, but by other resources, such as medical help and education. I think the most important help you could give them is to have other people from all over the world to be aware. I feel so much pain to see these people suffer all their lives. I have no right to tell people what to do with their money and properties, but what would it hurt for them to donate a little, if a million dollars is like a penny to their bank accounts? We have so many people in this country spending their time and money on useless items. We are supposed to be the leaders of tomorrow, yet we are showing that we are selfish. I hope that you take the time to help others be aware of what is really going on in the world. Maybe not tomorrow or even a year from now, but I do hope that one day, people of the Philippines will have the same chance to live a better life as much as I have when I had the opportunity to move to this country. Your voice is power, and I ask that you help us.
