Torture and the Constitution
- Alma R.
- Friday, 08 August 2014
Dear President Obama,
I voted for you twice and I have never approved of your continuation of the Bush Administration's use of the CIA to torture and otherwise deny human rights to get at very dubious information. Your speech last Friday left me with my mouth dropping when you so glibly dismissed torture by saying "we tortured some folks" and for people like me not to be "sanctimonious" about it. What was our excuse for torturing? People were "afraid". When is fear an excuse for destroying the Constitution and the Geneva Convention. You have left me feeling disgusted with your point of view.
If you have wondered why I stopped supporting you at this point, now you know.
