Recent Decision on the Issue of the Embargo with Cuba

Dear President Obama,

I have a question to ask along with statements. Before I get to the question, allow me to say a few statements. I recently went to Cuba this summer as my father's family are descendants of the cigar factory and company, Trinidad Y Hermanos. Our family also had ownership of Radio Havana. During my visit there, I fell in love with the island. I fell in love with the people. They took me in as family that had been together and had known each other our whole lives. Now, granted my Spanish was tremendously bad, they still wanted to know what I had to say to them as they helped me communicate and, in return, I still wanted to know and listen to what they had to say as well. They are truly beautiful people with such a big heart and a lot of love. I've seen this through, not only my family, but ordinary people. Did you know that in Cuba they are paid $10 a month? (This question doesn't count as the question I wanted to initially ask you.) They live with $10. With the little that they have, they barely make it by. The economy is relied on the $10 per month. With the purely unnecessary blockade as a whole between US and Cuba, they have little to eat, they are beginning to have a shortage of food. Forget politics and the way "Life" as we know to be as humans today is ran and have the government to reflect this issue as real and true human beings. This isn't fair. Lift the embargo. This summer I proposed to my girlfriend who lives in Cuba. I can't bring her here because of the embargo. Tell me in what way Cuba as a country are a terrorist threat and if you say because of Communism, you are living in the ignorant fear of the era in which the embargo had been in place when Americans feared Cuba. I am well aware the Missile Crisis of 1962 and how you would compare to it in a defense to my statements but you would also have to realize that it was during 2 very different government rule and ideology (Russia and Cuba). The two main figures in the governments of Cuba and Russia are no longer in power and when Cuba is finally reaching out to you in asking to please stop the embargo as we (Cuba) has released our old ways for our people are suffering. I find it sttange that America doesn't trade with Cuba but trades with China, a country who killed many of its own citizens againts Communism and ruled Communism power to the highest extreme but now (and even before) they changed their ways, we trade with them. You had the audacity to tell them that it isn't America's interest to do so. Tell me when as an American, as a Cuban-American had I ever voted on whether or not to lift the embargo? Not one single American who isn't in government had any say in this decision. Without the consent of the people who are these United States of America, you and the government spoke for us without knowing whether what we wanted or knowing of this situation before the decision. We voted for you, we voted for the seats in government as a people to help us lead, not dictate what the government thinks is "fair" or what our interests are as a people. Without the people who have no part in government, sir, the people who are in government are the only people who are in America that have a say in America. Makes me feel as a citizen as if I'm not an American but more as a slave who resides in a dictated country where we all think we have choices in this country when in reality we don't. The government says they fight for the people but they don't even know what that even means anymore. It seems when it's only convenient for the government to do so which makes me as an American, question the real and true meaning of America as a whole. There are three types of people. People that make it happen, people that saw it happen, and people that don't even know what's going on. It's clear that as an American I evolved to be the third type of person. Tell me if I'm wrong to ask you to think which type are you, which type is the government, and which type are the people of the United States of America. It's a shame that I would have to have a job position within the government to be a true and real American. So if you would like to take in consideration for my vote as an American and you to accept it as one real and true human being to another, I would like to place my vote in in favor of lifting up the embargo from Cuba and finally reunite the Cuban people with their families again. Will you please acknowledge my vote? I thank you for your time, President Obama. Without a doubt, sir, in all honesty it has been an honor contacting you and being able to speak with you, if you ever happen to receive this.

Matthew Trinidad
