REQUEST FOR EXPRESSING THANKS GIVING THROUGH GREETINGS TO BE PRINTED IN THE SOUV...

DEAR POPE FRANCIS SIR,

RESPECTED SIR,

GREETINGS IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. IT IS DURING THE PERIOD FROM 1840 TO 2015 THAT, FOR THE PEOPLE OF NAGPUR, EXTENSIVE WORK HAS BEEN DONE IN THE VARIOUS FIELDS OF RELIGION, SPIRITUALISM, EDUCATION, MEDICAL CARE AND SOCIAL WORK BY THE AGNES HENDERSON MEMORIAL, 1840 CNI, CHURCH, NAGPUR. ONE CANNOT IGNORE THE CONTRIBUTION AND EFFORTS MADE BY THIS RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION IN CENTRAL INDIA IN THE NORMALLY NEGLECTED AREAS OF WOMEN'S EDUCATION, HIGHER STUDIES, HEALTH CARE AND UPLIFTMENT OF THE DEPRIVED SECTOR AND STANDS WORTH REMEMBERING AND MENTIONING.

REV. STEPHEN HISLOP,, AN ENLIGHTENED FIRST MISSIONARY AND PRESBYTER IN CHARGE OF OUR CHURCH, STARTED THE EARLIEST OF THE MISSION SCHOOLS IN NAGPUR, BHANDARA AND CHHINDWARA REGIONS IN 1846. THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT LATER ON RECOGNIZED AND ACCORDED GRANTS FOR THESE SCHOOLS. AFTER THE DEATH OF REV. HISLOP, AND IN THE YEAR 1883, THAT ANOTHER MISSIONARY, REV. J. G. COOPER TRANSFORMED THE MISSION SCHOOL AT NAGPUR INTO A COLLEGE AND DEDICATING IT TO THE MEMORY OF REV. STEPHEN HISLOP, NAMED IT AS THE HISLOP COLLEGE.

MANY PROMINENT POLITICIANS, SOCIAL WORKERS, WRITERS,, THINKERS, LAWYERS AND DOCTORS HAVE BEEN THE PRODUCT OF THIS COLLEGE AND CONTRIBUTED IMMENSELY TO THE SOCIETY AND OUR COUNTRY AT LARGE.

REV. COOPER'S WIFE, MADAM COOPER, STARTED THE FIRST'S GIRLS SCHOOL IN 1858 IN 'VERANDAH' OF HER BUNGALOW. TODAY, ST. URSULA GIRL'S HIGH SCHOOL AND JUNIOR COLLEGE AND ALSO THE THREE PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN ENGLISH, HINDI, MARATHI MEDIA AND THE ST. URSULA GIRL'S HOSTEL FOR THE NEEDY GIRL'S STAND AS A WITNESS TO THE REVOLUTIONARY EFFORTS OF MADAM COOPER.

IT WAS IN 1896, THAT A YOUNG LADY NAMED AGNES OF 25 YEARS OF AGE AND BORN IN THE ROYAL FAMILY OF ABERDEEN, OPENED A DISPENSARY IN NAGPUR AND IN THIS WAY STARTED HEALTH CARE SERVICES IN THIS REGION. THE MURE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL SITUATED IN THE SITABULDI AREA OF NAGPUR IS THE RESULT OF HER EFFORTS AND PERSEVERANCE. THIS YOUNG LADY DEDICATED HER ENTIRE LIFE FOR THIS GREAT PURPOSE.

TO GIVE TRIBUTES TO HE DEDICATED WORK IN NAGPUR, AFTER HER DEATH IN 1925, THE 1840 CHURCH WAS NAMED AFTER HER WHEN THE NEW CHURCH BUILDING WAS INAUGURATED IN 1929. THIS WAS NOT JUST A COINCIDENCE BUT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF HER GREAT WORK AND CONTRIBUTION.

REV. T. W. GARDINER, WHO WAS THE FIRST PRINCIPAL OF HISLOP COLLEGE FOR 20 LONG YEARS FROM 1921 TO 1940, STARTED A SCHOOL IN 1933 TO PROVIDE GOOD AND SOUND EDUCATION TO THE CHILDREN OF POOR EMPLOYEES AND WORKERS. LATE ON IN HIS MEMORY THAT THIS SCHOOL WAS NAMED AS THE GARDINER HIGH SCHOOL.

IT IS NOT OUR INTENTION TO SIMPLY ENUMERATE THE HISTORICAL EVENTS BUT TO HUMBLY REQUEST YOU TO PRAY PRAY FOR THIS ENDEAVOR.

MANY PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN ORGANIZED DURING THE LAST YEAR. THE CONCLUDING CEREMONY OF 175th CELEBRATIONS OF THE AHM 1840 CNI, CHURCH, NAGPUR, WILL BE HELD ON THE 12th MARCH'2015. THE BOOK CONTAINING THE HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH PENNED BY PROF. DR. SUBHASH PATIL WILL BE RELEASED ALONG WITH THE SOUVENIR.

IT IS OUR EARNEST REQUEST TO YOU TO SHARE YOUR GREETING TO BE INCLUDED AND PUBLISHED IN THE SOUVENIR.

THANKING YOU AND PRAYERFULLY WAITING FOR YOUR POSITIVE REPLY.

YOU ARE HUMBLY REQUESTED TO SEND YOUR COMPLIMENTS AT THE EARLIEST.

YOURS IN HIS MISSION,
