THE REAL PROBLEM WITH THE SCHOOLS

DEAR MR PRESIDENT,

THE REAL PROBLEM WITH THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM HAS ALWAYS BEEN OVERLOOKED AND THE GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO "BEAT UP ON THESE TEACHERS". THE REASON THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE ACADEMIC SCORES OF TEACHERS WHO TEACH IN MORE AFFLUENT NEIGHBORHOODS OPPOSED TO POOR NEIGHBORHOOD IS PARENT PARTICIPATION. PARENTS IN THESE MORE AFFLUENT NEIGHBORHOODS ARE MORE VESTED IN THEIR CHILDS EDUCATOIN, MOST READ WITH THEIR KIDS, MAKE THEM DO HOME WORK, HELP THEM OR GET THEM THE HELP THEY NEED. IN THE POOR NEIGHBORHOODS MOST OF THE PARENTS ARE NOT VESTED IN THEIR CHILDS EDUCATION, THEY ARE NOT READING WITH THEM, MAKING THEM DO HOMEWORK, OR SIMPLY GETTING THEM TO SCHOOL ON TIME OR AT ALL. WE HAVE HUGE PROBLEM WITH JUST GETTING PARENT TO GET UP AND GET THEIR KIDS ON THE BUS TO GO TO SCHOOL. WE HAVE KIDS WHO ARE LATE EVERY DAY. THE TEACHER IS TRYING TO DO IT ALL AND DEAL WITH ALL THE BEHAVIORIAL PROBLEMS THAT STEM FROM UNSTABLE HOME LIVES. ALSO, THEY DEAL WITH LARGER CLASS SIZES, CONSTANT BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS AND LITTLE TO NO PARENT PARTICIPATION. PARENT TELEPHONE NUMBER CHANGE WEEKLY, THEY DON'T RESPOND TO THE TEACHERS. I WORK IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM AND SEE IT EVERY DAY. THE TEACHERS ARE TRYING BUT WITH OUT THE PARENTS SUPPORT AT HOME ITS LIKE DRIVNG A 3 WHEELED CAR. IT WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD, WE HAVE TO GET THESE PARENTS VESTED BECAUSE IF WE DONT WE WILL CONTINUE TO BEAT UP THESE TEACHERS WHO ARE TEACHING AND TRYING. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OUR SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES WHO DO WELL, IS PARENT INVOLVEMENT. THOSE PARENTS IN THESE OTHER COUNTRIES ARE VESTED IN THEIR CHILDS EDUCATION BUT NOT IN AMERICA AND UNTIL WE FIGURE OUT A WAY TO HOLD PARENTS ACCOUNTABLE, THIS PROBLEM WILL REMAIN. EVEN IF YOU TAKE A HIGH PERFORMING TEACHER OUT OF AN AFFLUENT NEIGHBORHOOD AND MOVE HIM OR HER TO A LOWER ACHIEVING SCHOOL WITH NO OR VERY LITTLE PARENT SUPPORT OR PARTICIPATION, AND ALL THE BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS, HE OR SHE WILL YIELD THE SAME RESULTS. IF YOU FIGURE OUT HOW HOLD PARENTS ACCOUNTABLE, YOU WILL GET RESULTS. PLEASE STOP BEATING UP ON THESE TEACHERS THEY REALLY ARE TRYING TO ECUCATE THESE KIDS BUT PARENTS WILL HAVE TO STEP UP. IN ORDER FOR US TO SEE THE SCORES IMPROVE. I SEE THE PROBLEM EVERY DAY AND ITS FRUSTRATION TO WATCH EVERYONE PUT ALL THE PRESSURE AND BLAME ON THE TEACHER AND MAKE NO MENTION OF THE PARENTS ROLE IN ALL OF THIS. WITHOUT PARENTAL SUPPORT, EDUCATING THESE KIDS IS A BATTLE AND ON MOST ACCOUNTS A LOSING ONE. I SEE IT EVERYDAY. AT OUR SCHOOL THE CHILDREN WHOSE PARENTS ARE VESTED INTHIER EDUCATION DO WELL. MOST OF THE KIDS WHOSE PARENT ARE NOT VESTED DO NOT DO WELL, THATS THE PROOF. THANKS FOR LISTENING.
