VA needs help

Dear Mr President, It is so important to thousands of Veterans that you continue your investigations on treatment of Veterans. My Vietnam Veteran husband is 74 and has many health issues. He is total and permanently disabled with physical and mental issues. So many times we would have have jumped with excitement if we could have gotten him a doctor's appt in 90 day. We waited 6 months for a referral for my husbands appt for orthopedics. We finally used his Medicare to have the extensive shoulder surgery he needed , paying a large amount of bill and making payments for the balance. 10 months from the time they pulled his teeth until they could make him dentures. After 3 months, he was so weak from not eating solids. I wrote letters and recieved letters assuring us they would get him in..They did. They made big promises, even took impressions. Then "lost" his dentures , couldnt get them fixed..All kinds of excuses. We saved up money and bought him a pair . It would be 7 more months until the VA dental clinic would hand my husband his dentures. I hear stories like this all the tiime. Doctors are understaffed. More incentive to become a VA health provider needs to happen. VA hospitals are far between, so we rely on very small VA clinics that have few doctors or staff. They recommend that we use a "local" physician for "everyday health issues" since they know they cant get to us. We had to drive over 2 hours for a Pulmonary Test just so they could put him on a list to see a Pulmonologist. That was over 2 months ago and still no appointment.. He has been diagnosed with COPD over 10 years ago. This was so wasteful of time. I have written lots of letters about VA in the last 25 years. I know it cant all happen quickly but change has to happen. It is probably too late to help my husband but it needs to change. The Veterans did their part. People say the Veterans that died have paid the ultimate price for our Freedom. I also say that your Veterans who lived also gave up their life. We that see the way they suffer daily, know exactly what they paid. Maybe we need a few more of the real people like me involved in the decision making of the VA care. Maybe you need more forums out there seeing the true picture of how this really goes..Dont believe they are fixing it and turn your back..they arent! They just hope you and others will forget about it. Thank for the ability to send this message. Maybe it will help yyou see whats going on . Thank you for what you do. I am Sincerely, Carol McLeod
