Dear Mr. and Mrs. Obama!
Providence Police Motorcycle officer Edmond F. Malloy, Jr. escorted Mr. and Mrs. Obama during their visit to Rhode Island.
Ed helped plan this visit well in advance with some members of the Secret Service. .
On the morning of the Obama's visit Ed arose at 6AM to begin his day.He was not feeling well. He had a sharp pain in his back. With Ed's strong call to duty as a consummate police officer and marine, He rode without wavering.
Ed's 16 hour day was spent for the most part riding his police motorcycle. Ed helped escort Mrs. Obama to her destination after her morning arrival by airplane. Ed helped escort President Obama to the Providence Omni Hotel about 10pm. Upon arrival at the hotel Ed and his fellow officers saluted the President as he entered the hotel, Ed put his kickstand down, got off his motorcycle and collapsed. Through pain and suffering Ed saw this mission through to the conclusion.
Ed was immediately rushed to RI Hospital by quick thinking Providence Police officers.
A surprising discovery was that Ed had a tumor on his liver that burst and he was bleeding to death. Because of a stellar RI Hospital surgical team the bleeding was stopped just in time. Ed spent a week in the hospital and is slowly recovering at home until a date for surgery is set.
Edmond F. Malloy, Jr. is my son-in-law
